5 Writers Accept the Show-Us-Your-Character Challenge!
A few days ago, I posted about my new favorite procrastination tool—the addictive character generators over at Azalea’s Dolls, where I made this portrait of Brandon and Abel hanging out in the Game of Thrones universe. At the end of the post, I invited other writers/bloggers to send me Azalea’s pics of their own characters. Here’s what five lovely and talented ladies sent to my inbox.

The first two pics are from Tara Allen, who blogs about books, movies, and the writing life over at A Spoonful of Snarky. When Tara’s not on Twitter being supercool and supersweet, she’s hard at work on her first YA novel. Her protagonist, Jessica (who reportedly picked her own name after a brief stint as a “Meg”), discovers she’s a witch—and is saddled with a bodyguard called Alex. Both appear to be adorable:
Visit Tara’s blog and follow her on Twitter, ‘cause she basically rules.

Next up is this terrifying beauty from Christian Frey, a multitalented writer/illustrator whose Truth in Fiction blog tour I participated in back in December. She just started a great serial story on Wattpad—it’s a sci-fi dark comedy about a guy named Charles whose new office job seems deliciously sinister. The first installment, Room 202, is up and ready to read now. (It’s also been accepted for an upcoming issue of Black Heart Magazine—congrats, Christy!)
The mysterious character shown here will make waves later in the story. She doesn’t have a name yet, but in Christian’s words, “she feeds on the blood of innocents but will also accept pickle juice in a pinch.” I LOVE HER ALREADY.
Follow Christian Frey’s blog here and go read her Wattpad stories. Room 202 already has me hooked.

Next is a pic that gives me the tingles, because I am a Lannister and any pic that includes the Iron Throne automatically gives me the tingles. This one’s from Stephanie Diaz, author of the YA sci-fi trilogy Extraction (coming Spring 2014 from St. Martin’s/MacMillan). Stephanie says, “The first book is about a sixteen-year-old girl who wins escape from a life of brutality on her planet’s surface, only to face the cruel realization that her new life within the core has its own set of horrors.” The characters are Clementine and Logan, and I think we can all get behind a fierce redhead and a boy with intelligent eyes and a luxurious mane.
Follow Stephanie on Twitter, check out her blog, and stay tuned for the first book in the Extraction trilogy!

Joyfully Jay did one of these too, which makes me squee. In the world of M/M romance bloggers, she is one of the coolest chicks around, and not just because she shamelessly supports my Game of Thrones addiction and my penchant for playing with dolls.
In the first pic, she is making me happy by channeling her inner Cersei. She points out that she looks like a Cersei/Sansa love child, which is giving me unexpected femslashy feels:
She also transformed herself into a wildling for when she marries Jon Snow and schools him in the ways of love.
Anyway, if you’re an M/M romance fan and you’re not following Joyfully Jay yet, go check out her blog and Twitter. The queen commands it.

I love me some Jennifer Kathleen Gibbons. She’s a blogger, essayist, and novelist; her books include the YA novel Ella Bella, which is on my Kindle and next on my TBR list. Here’s her rendition of what her character Ella would look like at age sixteen:
And here’s a sneak peek at Nina, the narrator of her WIP, who dresses up like a flapper and is therefore my kind of woman:
Follow Jennifer’s delightful and eclectic Red Room blog, check out her books, and follow her on Twitter, where she is a consistently awesome, supportive presence.

If you missed out and you want to make a character pic too, you can still join in! Head over to Azalea’s, send me your pic, and I’ll post it here with links to your book and/or blog.
Happy weekend!
Thanks for the invite to participate! So neat to see what everyone else is working on too. I’m writing her in as we speak, ha ha 🙂
Can’t wait to read it!
Thanks JC for the shout out! And great pics ladies!
Thanks for playing! This was fun.
